The reality of the impact

For many people, solar panels are small, relatively unobtrusive items on roofs. However, the impact of commercial solar farms is much more damaging to the landscape. Typically, the panels used are taller than an average person, and stand at an angle designed to capture the maximum solar energy.

To service them, they require large shipping container sized units to house transformers and battery units – both of which produce noise pollution. To protect all of this, and to prevent anyone entering what is a very dangerous environment, the sites are surrounded by security fencing lighting and CCTV coverage.

To give you an idea of what a farm looks like up-close, we’ve mocked up an image (below) that shows you how the solar arrays would look when placed on the small prairie that borders the Western edge of the village. Whilst this is only an illustration, we believe it’s a close representation of what we will be expected to live with.
